Candlelight and the Art of Winding Down

There's a reason a room lit by candlelight feels calmer than the same room under a bright ceiling light. Bright, cool overhead light tells your body it's the middle of the day — stay alert. Soft, warm, low light tells it the opposite. If your evenings feel like the day just refuses to end, the lighting is doing half the damage.
Turn the big lights off earlier
The simplest evening upgrade I know: an hour or so before bed, kill the overhead lights and switch to candlelight. The room softens, the mood drops a gear, and winding down starts happening on its own. A solid pillar holder anchors a calmer corner; a holder with a handle lets you carry the light room to room, the way people did before switches were on every wall; and a simple metal holder goes with anything.
Give your hands something too
Candlelight pairs naturally with a warm, caffeine-free drink — a cup of proper decaf or a herbal tea in a stoneware mug. Candles get saved for guests and birthdays, which is a shame; used nightly they become a switch — lights down, candle lit, day officially over. Try it for a week and your evenings will feel twice as long and half as frantic.
